Strong Earthquake Kills More Than 1,800 People in Turkey And Syria (See Photos)
After a strong 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook southern Turkey, many more people were injured and more than 1,800 people killed in both Turkey and Syria.
At one location, rescuers were seen removing a man and a toddler from the debris.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake, one of the strongest to hit the area in more than a century, struck at a depth of 24.1 kilometers and occurred 23 kilometers (14.2 miles) east of Nurdagi in the Turkish province of Gaziantep.
Hours after the initial earthquake, the area was hit by a number of powerful aftershocks, including one with a magnitude of 7.5.
The world community has been urged to assist Turkey’s disaster agency in its search and rescue efforts.
More than 800 people have died in Syria as a whole.
