The Labour Party Speaks Out in Support of Raising the Minimum Wage to N80,000-N100,000

The Labour Party (LP) has unveiled its labor policy for Nigerians.

The party outlined the benefits Nigerians will receive if its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, wins the 2023 general election on Thursday.

If the party gains power, it plans to implement a minimum wage of N80,000 to N100,000 per month.

In an interview with Channels TV, the party’s Deputy National Chairman, Ayo Olorufemi, criticized the current N30,000 minimum wage.

“It depends on the nature of the job that will be given out,” Olorunfemi said.
For example, if you look at the manual labor out there, a laborer does not take less than N2,500-N3,000 per day, which is still not acceptable in terms of the reward system.

“N3,000 is equal to N500 per hour if you split it by six hours.

Therefore, if you compare that to what we already have, you would be talking about something between N500 and N1,000 per hour depending on the type of labor, and at the end of the day, someone could essentially claim that he can make up to N4,000 in a day.

And if you take N4,000 per day and multiply it by 20 or 25, you get N80,000 or N100,000 per month.
