Tension as Osun Tribunal Delivers Decision in Oyetola v. Adeleke Case Today
In Osun State, animosity exists between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) camps ahead of the Election Petition Tribunal’s decision today over the July 16, 2022 governorship election.
Adegboyega Oyetola, a former governor, had contested Sen. Ademola Adeleke’s victory in his plea to the tribunal presided over by Justice Tertse Kume.
In 749 voting locations, he said there had been excessive voting, and he questioned the legitimacy of the winner’s certificate.
SP Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson, issued a statement yesterday in Osogbo warning troublemakers to stay away from the government and judicial buildings.
The statement reads,
“As the Osun State governorship election petition tribunal set to deliver its judgment tomorrow, 27th of January 2023, Osun State Police Command wishes to assure the general public, especially the good people of the State of adequate security before, during and beyond the judgment.
“The Police in collaboration with other security agencies in the State have put all necessary security measures in place to deal decisively within the ambit of the law with anyone, group of persons who might attempt to foment trouble.
“Therefore, Osun State Police Command is using this medium to appeal to parents and guardians to warn their children and wards to stay out of trouble/violence. They should not allow themselves to be used by any vicious politicians to cause crisis in the State as the command will not tolerate any kind of thuggery or hooliganism.
“The CP enjoined the good people of the State to go about their lawful daily activities”.
