FIFA Announces The 2022 Best Player Of The Year Award Nominees – Who Wins This?
FIFA, the organization in charge of world football, has revealed the candidates for the best player of the year award.
Following their exploits on the field for club and nation in 2022, the players were narrowed down.
The FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022 will, however, likely determine who receives this year’s award.
Lionel Messi, the World Cup’s top performer, was among the 14 candidates for the prize.
Messi was outstanding for Argentina and was the South Americans’ third World Cup champion from the first game till the last game.
Following his achievements, particularly in the final matchup against Argentina, Messi’s PSG colleague Kylian Mbappe is also one of the nominees for the honor.
He scored eight goals during the competition, earning the golden boot.
One of three Real Madrid players competing for the prize is Karim Benzema.
Injuries prevented Benzema from competing, but he still has a chance to win after helping Real Madrid win the UEFA Champions League. Vinicius Jr. and Luka Modric were instrumental in their nations’ victory at the World Cup.
Neymar and Achraf Hakimi of PSG were also up for the honor.
While Neymar also contributed to his nation’s progress to the quarterfinals, Hakimi helped Morocco advance to the World Cup semifinals.
Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah are further players on the list.
