Pastor apologizes profusely after explaining why he abducted himself twice and demanded money from churchgoers as ransom
According to the police, Bitrus was captured on Wednesday after a “vigorous investigation.”
The pastor of ECWA Church Jos was caught staging kidnappings and collecting ransoms on multiple occasions, the police found, working with a gang to commit the crime in order to earn his money.
The preacher explained that financial hardships led him to simulate his captivity during his speech at the command center.
But he afterwards admitted that he had made a mistake.
He acknowledged,
“I put myself into these activities because of the financial challenges I am facing. When I did the first one, I felt guilty. When I went out, the money with me got finished. I was thinking of coming back. I was just confused. That is why I did the second one. I am regretting my action.”
According to a DailyPost story, he went on to say that he burned his senior pastor’s car since he was responsible for what he had done. He also said that he was disoriented and had no idea what had happened to him.
However, he admitted what he had done and said, “I am sorry for what I have done. I apologize deeply.
The police reportedly told the publication that the suspect amassed N400,000 on November 14, 2022, and that on November 30, 2022, he faked another kidnapping of himself in order to amass N200,000 from his church members who sympathized with him.
