Arsenal Are In A Very Good Position To Sign Gundogan (See Details)
Arsenal academy director Per Mertesacker has insisted the club are “in a good position” to sign Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan this summer.
Gundogan played a key role as City finished the season with a treble.
The 32-year-old’s contract expires at the end of June, with moves to Arsenal, Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund confirmed.
City are keen to retain Gundogan beyond this season and manager Pep Guardiola has made it clear that he wants the captain to stay.
Mertesacker, however, believes the Gunners have a good chance of luring their brethren.
As a ZDF expert, Mertesacker said after the Champions League final.
“I think the clubs are queuing.
“Because [Mikel] Arteta knows him, and we probably haven’t broken off contact, we’re in a good position.
“I think he’ll let it all sink in first and then choose from one of the four clubs.”
