According to Tinubu, “INEC’s Certificate of Return Is Like a World Cup Trophy.”

Bola Tinubu, the incoming president of Nigeria, compared receiving his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to receiving a “World Cup” trophy.

On Sunday, Tinubu spoke while paying a visit to Rilwan Akinolu, the oba of Lagos, in his palace.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Tinubu was declared the victor of the February 25 presidential election last week by INEC.

According to INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, Tinubu received 8,794,726 votes.

With 6,984,520 votes, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came in second, followed by Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) with 6,101,533 votes.
In his speech at the palace, Tinubu vowed to keep his word to Nigerians.

“To all the monarchies seated, may God provide you with strong health for you. God will not allow our country to perish. We will not be used as a tool to disgrace you. I will not let you down,” he said.

“The journey that we embarked upon and we have returned home with a certificate — it is like our own World Cup — and I thank you all for the effort.”

Oba of Lagos lauded the incoming president as a unique breed “who is destined for leadership at the absolute top” on his part.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos, Femi Pedro, the former deputy governor of Lagos, Muiz Banire, the former commissioner for the environment, and Jumoke Okoya-Thomas, the head of the APC in Lagos, were among the dignitaries present at the palace.

Saheed Elegushi, the oba of the Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom, and Omogbolahan Lawal, the oniru of Iruland, are the other two.
