Prior to the 2023–24 season, Liverpool names a new captain and vice-captain
Virgil Van Dijk has been chosen the club’s captain by Liverpool Football Club, and Trent Alexander-Arnold has been named the team’s vice-captain.
After Jordan Henderson left for Saudi Arabia, the Netherlands international became the finest candidate for the role. James Milner, who just signed for Brighton as a free agent, will be replaced by Trent Alexander-Arnold in that role.
In a Singapore interview, Virgil Van Dijk stated his enthusiasm on the team’s website.
“It is a really proud day for me, for my wife, for my kids, my family. It’s been a special feeling and I can’t really describe it at this point. But it’s something that I’m really, really proud of. Obviously, I’m captain of Holland, that was already such a huge honour, a proud moment as well. But also to be the captain of Liverpool Football Club is something that I can’t describe at this point. It’s just something that makes me very proud and I will do everything in my power and what I can do to make everyone proud and happy with me and the football club.”
The center-back joined Liverpool from Southampton in January 2018, and he has since played a vital role for the Reds.
