Why Real Madrid Stopped Us From Winning the Champions League – Klopp

Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, claimed that Real Madrid’s elimination of the Reds from the UEFA Champions League was due to his team’s lackluster performance against Carlo Ancelotti’s squad in Spain.

In the Santiago Bernabeu, Klopp observed Real Madrid defeat Liverpool 1-0 in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16.

Real Madrid moved to the Champions League quarterfinal with a 6-2 aggregate victory after winning 5-2 in the first leg at Anfield last month. Karim Benzema scored the game’s lone goal in the second half.

At the news conference he held following the game, Klopp claimed that Real Madrid had been in control of the contest for the entire ninety minutes because they were the superior team.

Added the German,

“We came here with the backpack we had with the three goals difference. You need a special performance and we didn’t show a special performance tonight.

“It was, in moments, a good performance, but Real Madrid was, for the whole game, the team in control of the game. They had the better chances, Ali [Alisson Becker] had to make two sensational saves to keep us in the game and that is the reason.”

“In the end, Madrid were the better team and that is why the right team went through to the next round.”
