Tension as bandits start operations days after the election and shoot a Policeman

SP Kazeem Raheem, a Divisional Police Officer, was murdered by bandits in Maru town, the seat of the Maru local government area in Zamfara state.

Raheem was murdered along with a vigilante and an unnamed police officer.

A local who wished to remain anonymous told Daily Trust that the intruders had come to the area in order to kidnap a businessman known as Alhaji Iliyasu.

His brother had earlier been kidnapped by the armed guys but was reportedly released after a ransom was paid.
He managed to escape while they took his wife when they returned to try to kidnap him.

The DPO organized his men to thwart the criminals’ plan to kidnap the businessman, but he was killed in the gun battle.

It was a horrible encounter.
Around two in the morning, loud gunfire woke me up.
These bandits have been attacking Maru town continuously, and over the past year, several people have been abducted.

Because his phone lines were out at the time this story was filed, SP Muhammad Shehu, the state police command’s spokesman, could not be reached for comment.

Despite numerous promises to handle the problem, bandits have persisted in making life miserable for the people of North West.
