If Buhari leaves office, what will Emefiele go through? – Shehu Sani
Senator Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker and social critic, has made predictions on what Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, could experience after Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) leaves office.
Sani likened the CBN chief’ condition as that of a “Zebra in the hands of tigers,” when Buhari leaves office on May 29.
Bola Tinubu, the incoming president, and certain governors in the All Progressives Congress reportedly did not like the naira redesign policy.
Due to the lack of fresh naira notes, the naira redesign had also caused tremendous suffering for many Nigerians.
The old N200, N500, and N1,000 notes are still legal tender till December 31, according to a ruling by the Supreme Court last week, which also mandated that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) continue to accept the notes from Nigerians.
The President’s order to redesign the new notes without proper consultation, according to the supreme court, was unlawful.
Sani, a former senator, is of the belief that when Buhari leaves office later in the year, Emefiele might not be shielded from those who criticize the strategy.
Late on Saturday, Sani wrote on his verified Twitter account, “Emefiele will be like Zebra in the hands of Tigers after Baba (Buhari) is gone.
till then we will know. for now he is the CBN Governor
